BBSmates Newsletter Topics for Wednesday, September 18, 2002 - Added Features - Added Database Fields - Coming Soon - One Last Note =================================================================== Added Features =================================================================== Telnet BBS List --------------- I have created a special list of the BBSes on BBSmates that are known to be running and with telnet capabilities. If you wanna try out BBSing in the 21st century, take a look at this list! =================================================================== Added Database Fields =================================================================== BBSes - Telnetable checkbox. If you have a BBS which has telnet capabilities, please check out your BBS and make sure this is checked. I was able to update most of them automatically, but please check back to ensure yours was updated. If you check the "Still Active" and "Telnetable" boxes, your BBS will show up in the Telnet BBS List. Users - City, State, Country and Gender. Please log into BBSmates, and click the Edit Profile link (on the right). Then, fill out these new fields. I should have had them in there from the beginning, as they may help people trying to locate you. =================================================================== Coming Soon =================================================================== The next thing I'll work on is a site-wide search. You'll be able to search all forums (general and BBS specific), BBS Descriptions, and Notes (when you joined a specific BBS). The results will be shown categorically. =================================================================== One Last Note =================================================================== I have recently switched BBSmates over to a new server. Paying $65/month for hosting was just no longer in my budget. (I have another son on the way!) So, the server is my now in my basement, being hosted on my DSL line. The sad thing is, I have not noticed any change in performance! It's running on a Celeron 766 machine with a 144k DSL line (compared to the quad processor dell monster server on redundant OC3 lines that it was on).. I should have made the switch a long time ago! Anyways, if you notice any glitches on the new server, please let me know. -- Aron Hoekstra BBSmates - dialing up the past http://www.bbsmates.com http://www.vaper.org nullvalue@bbsmates.com
